There’s nothing like a rainy day to admire color in exterior concrete. Today was one such day. I visited a project we completed about three years ago and I am excited to share it looks even better today than the day we completed it (and it looked great then!). What I Iove about this project is its simplicity, use of colors and lines, and use of textures.
For most of the plaza, Colorado Hardscapes’ crews used integral color. However, inside the cobble ring for the compass rose, the crew used color hardener instead. We used color hardener there for the structural integrity of the compass. If we tried to pour each color separately within that ring, we would most likely have cracking and weak points at every tip. With color hardener, we were able to pour the whole compass rose monolithically.
Another unique feature of this project is the natural reflexology path. Our crews hand placed the cobble in various sizes within the concrete. As the landscape takes over, the path blends in naturally with its surroundings, yet has the durable integrity and design of decorative concrete.
